Rattleboard — Privacy

Rattleboard is a desktop app for macOS and Windows, with iPhone and Android apps to follow. None of them collect anything. There is no account, no analytics, no tracking, and no server of ours behind them.

Last updated: 16 October 2026.

What we collect

Nothing. The apps make no requests to us, contain no analytics or crash-reporting SDKs, and have no sign-in.

Where the app connects

Only to the Vestaboard endpoint you configure: your board's address on your local network for the Local API, or cloud.vestaboard.com for the Cloud API. Those requests go directly from your device to that endpoint, under Vestaboard's own terms. In demo mode and as a virtual board, the app talks to no Vestaboard endpoint at all.

The desktop app can optionally run a local API server so your own scripts and apps can send messages to it. Only software you point at it talks to it. It requires a key, and by default accepts requests from the same computer only. Accepting requests from your local network is a separate option you have to choose.

What stays on your device

Your settings and message history are stored locally and never leave the device. API keys, including the Vestaboard keys you enter and the local server's own key, are kept only in the operating system's credential store: the macOS Keychain, Windows Credential Manager, or the iOS Keychain and Android Keystore on the phone apps. Your Vestaboard keys are sent nowhere except the Vestaboard endpoint you chose.
